Bring a MoMS Exhibition to Your State!
Exhibition Booking Process
The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service is pleased to offer an open booking process for state humanities councils interested in touring Museum on Main Street exhibitions. Please note the following guidelines:
General Information:
- MoMS exhibitions are only available for touring a state via the sponsorship of the state humanities council or another statewide organization.
- Exhibitions are not available for individual bookings by museums. Museums and other cultural institutions interested in hosting a MoMS exhibition should contact their state humanities council to discuss their state council’s plans for hosting a tour.
- The chart below indicates available exhibitions.
Booking Process:
- You can choose to book or hold an available slot at any time.
- A confirmed booking fully commits the council to the tour--including payment of the full participation fee. At the time a booking is confirmed, a state council will receive a contract for the exhibition and will be billed for a $3,000 deposit. The balance of the participation fee will be due upon the beginning of the exhibition tour in the state.
- A hold allows an organization to reserve a slot until they are able to confirm the booking. Organizations will be asked to commit to a booking three years prior to the beginning of an exhibition tour in order to maintain our programmatic and training schedule.
- Encore tours, concurrent tours and double bookings of the same exhibition are encouraged, pending availability. On the last year of an exhibition’s availability, priority will be given to state councils who have not hosted that exhibition.
Interested state councils should contact Carol Harsh, Director, Museum on Main Street at (202) 465-5267 or harshc@si.edu to book a MoMS exhibition. MoMS wants to work with you to bring these wonderful exhibitions to your state. Give MoMS a call!
